Ethical Policy & Production

Our Policies

We are committed to producing as responsibly as we can, going forward.  We are members of Mindful Fashion, the New Zealand fashion collective on sustainable production.  We require all suppliers to sign the Code of Conduct.

We manufacture around the world, carefully choosing the best factories, many of which are small family owned businesses in New Zealand, Asia, Europe and Nepal.  Our merino mid and baselayers are grown and made in New Zealand.

All our products are made from the highest quality natural materials, many of which replicate the fabric used in the 1953 expedition.  We are taking a seasonless approach.  Our garments are all timeless classics that last year-after-year, and our aim is that no piece will be out of fashion at the end of the season. In addition, our lifetime repair guarantee means we will repair many of our garments during their lifetime. In these ways we hope we can contribute to sustainability in the fashion industry.

We only use the highest grade ethically-sourced goose down and feather, sourced from Minardi Piumi in Italy.  This is a by-product of the poultry industry, harvested from the nests of geese and not from live plucked or force-fed birds.

Where we use man-made materials we try and use recycled materials where we can.  Currently our raincoats, new Piha & Cirque jackets and Cyclo T-Shirts are made of recycled materials.

The collection continues Ed's philanthropic legacy, with 2% of the wholesale value of each item going to support causes that were close to his heart - helping the people of Nepal, and outdoor activities for young people around the world.
